The Somers Point Bayfest was first organized to celebrate Earth Day and the environment. Bayfest continues that tradition 29 years later by hosting a variety of environmental groups that help to educate the public on the many issues that we continue to face.
In the past, 5th & 6th Graders from the Somers Point Dawes Avenue School participated with their Save the Bluff Fund. Our school children have become concerned, as erosion is deteriorating the bluff at Kennedy Park, which is only one of two coastal bluffs in the State of New Jersey. The 5th & 6th Graders have created a project to raise the community’s awareness, as well as raise funds for the purchase and planting of indigenous plant materials needed to stabilize and save our coastal bluff from erosion.
